How to Support Raising Trans Kids: Pre-Order, Donate, and Spread the Word

I had no idea before writing a book why pre-orders mattered.  I thought they were just a nice way to treat your future self—a little surprise that shows up in the mail on release day.

But here’s what I’ve learned: pre-orders are one of the most powerful things you can do to help a book succeed. And right now, less than a month from the September 9th launch of Raising Trans Kids: What to Expect When You Weren’t Expecting This, I need your help.

Why This Moment Matters

Books like this are already being pulled from shelves and banned in hostile states. And those are often the same places where families have the least access to affirming, accurate information.

We have two big opportunities right now to make sure Raising Trans Kids reaches the parents, caregivers, and allies who need it most: pre-orders and tax-deductible donations.

Every pre-order and every donation sends a clear message: You can’t erase us.

Why Pre-Orders Are Powerful

Pre-orders do so much more than guarantee you a copy:

  • They tell bookstores to stock the book (and how many copies).

  • They signal to media outlets that this is a conversation worth covering.

  • They count toward first-week sales, helping the book land on bestseller lists and reach new readers (did you know those are all a numbers game?!)

  • They keep it in print so it’s available for years to come.

When you pre-order Raising Trans Kids, you help make sure this book is visible, available, and impossible to ignore.

Why it helps to diversify pre-orders

I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve done through All She Wrote Books and will always champion independent bookstores. They’re vital for queer authors and community spaces. That said, it’s also important to diversify where we place pre-orders—especially at large retailers like Barnes & Noble—because it helps ensure the book is widely stocked across the country to increase access.

Even if you don’t want a copy, you can donate one

Every donated copy goes directly to families, schools, libraries, and community groups—especially in places where this book might never make it onto shelves. Donations are tax-deductible, and many employers will match your gift. You can also direct your donation toward workshops for parents and educators in these communities.

How You Can Help Before September 9

Paid Ways to Support

Let’s Flood the Shelves on September 9

Less than a month from now, this book will officially be out in the world. With your help, it won’t just be on shelves—it will be in homes, in classrooms, and in communities where it can make the biggest difference.
